Stumbling through the great outdoors

Hike to the Future

Back to Folsom Lake state park!

We really love this place, not only is it close but the beauty never fails to impress. Today included a picnic overlooking the water and the start of a huge new adventure.

One of the most difficult things about hiking, or even just walking, with FSHD is dealing with foot drop. The muscles that control my right ankle flexors, basically allowing my toes to not drag on everything, well they don’t work very well so tripping is a constant hazard.

Today I tried some uneven terrain and rocky areas while exploring and the lack of foot control was quite noticeable. I am thinking of buying a cool foot brace I found and seeing how it helps with trekking and day-to-day.

Though my girlfriend asked me several times if I wanted to bring my poles, I insisted that we were just going on a short walk and they would not be needed. Truly though, she didn’t know that I was already carrying extra weight and couldn’t have my hands preoccupied!

Time For a Big Step

After we explored several areas with pretty views, it was time to head back to the car. She went on ahead of me so she could “find the easiest path” and that worked out great, because a few steps in I was able to say,

Hey love, will you marry me?

Me, duh

Was an adventurous day in more ways than one, and I am excited for the next stage of life!
